A new incident in the skies over the eastern Mediterranean Sea almost led to tragic consequences. As it became known, Israeli F-16 fighters fired four cruise missiles at the port of Latakia, however, it turned out that at that time a Russian military transport aircraft was flying in the sky, which not only was on the flight path of the IDF missiles, but also blocked the flight path anti-aircraft missiles of the Syrian army.

A similar situation took place in September 2018, when Israeli military aircraft, hiding behind the Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft, caused the destruction of the Russian Aerospace Forces aircraft, killing 15 people.
