Since her hip fracture and replacement surgery last December, it's been a Long and Winding Road for my girlfriend, such as...

...countless visits to different medical specialists to try to diagnose and relieve her chronic pain that prevents her from healing properly and engaging in all the activities that she had doing prior to the accident. Determining why she's lost so much muscle mass and strength in her hip area. Deferring payment of her hospital bills while being uninsured. Waiting months and multiple appointments for Medicaid to approve her financial aid application.

Her health crisis has triggered a severe case of PTSD which is also affecting her emotionally and psychologically.

Recently, she met with a highly-rated orthopedist in Sarasota who appears to have discovered a clue that other specialists had not (for unknown reasons) picked up from their x-rays and MRI scans: the telltale evidence (by way of another x-ray) of an acetabular screw that extends from her hip implant through the medial cortex and into her muscle area. She feels that the diagnosis and action plan is correct and has scheduled surgery for Monday, September 28 in which she plans to spend the night at the hospital before returning home.

The thought of undergoing another surgery while being sedated with drugs scares the cr*p out of my girlfriend. The surgeon told her that he and his staff are going to check on the side of the incision. He believes there is a band (of muscle?) that is stretched too tight against the area where the implant was inserted. The surgeon said he will try to loosen the band that is "rubbing" and that he had successfully performed a similar operation on another woman. My girlfriend admitted that she will have to push through the fear in order to undergo the procedure.
