Perhaps at last a glimmer of hope – a real leader emerges in these troubled times?

Among historians there has always been a debate as to whether great events bring froth great leaders or rather great leaders create great events. For my part I maintain that it is spineless weak corrupt leaders that set in motion great events and then it is these events that bring forth the true great leaders of history.

An interesting example of this is the American Civil War. Arguably the two greatest leaders of that war – at least from a military point of view – were General Robert E Lee of the Confederate forces, and General Ulysses Grant of the Union Army. What few people today realize about those two men is that neither was prominent, or even heard of, at the beginning of that war. Grant wasn’t even in the army at that time, but was instead a clerk in his father-in-laws general store! And Lee was just a minor commander of a militia. And in fact when the war broke out Grant, who was a West Point graduate, offered his services and was turned down, and Jefferson Davis of the confederacy probably didn’t even know Lee’s name. But that war, like so many other great events of history, was the product of cowardly-minded fools making stupid decisions (such as the Supreme Court ruling that slaves were not protected by the constitution because they were not “men” but rather they were property – the famous Dread Scott decision of the late 1850’s) and like all such fools they had little idea what they were doing, or what the consequences of their actions would produce.

I think that it is becoming clear to many of us that we are living in a similar time, a time when stupid foolish cowardly and corrupt people are setting in motion events that will explode into some of the greatest events in all of recorded history. It also seems pretty clear that we have not yet seen the great leaders that will be required to lead us out of this unfolding nightmare . . . but maybe – just maybe – one of them has surfaced in these last few days.

His name is Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller, a 17 year veteran of the Marine Corps, and clearly a man of honor, and integrity, who was just relived of command because he had the courage to “speak truth to power”, as the saying goes. The spineless weasels in the Pentagon – who are a living disgrace to their uniforms – do not want to hear that they are not real leaders, that they are instead “yes men” more interested in pretending that they have value and worth than actually doing the job that they are commissioned to do – which is to protect the nation, and uphold the constitution.

Real leaders don’t issue threats, nor do they stand behind pomp and position, they LEAD, and they do so because they are respected, and trusted . . . and because they have the wisdom, courage, and integrity to honestly asses the situation, and honestly address it with determination and truth. God knows, we desperately need such men and women at this most dangerous time in our history. And I for one will pray for this man, and can say with confidence that I would follow him wherever he would chose to lead.
