Trump charges Bill Barr with being a ‘disappointment in every sense of the word’

Former President Donald Trump is hitting back hard at former Attorney General Bill Barr – labeling him “a disappointment” – amid reports that Barr disparaged the former commander in chief’s election fraud claims in a new book set to be released this fall, as The Hill reports.

The remarks attributed to Barr are found in a forthcoming release from ABC News chief Washington correspondent Jonathan Karl and reportedly include the former AG’s assessment that Trump’s allegations of election fraud were “bull****.”

According to excerpts from Karl’s work reported separately in The Hill, Barr explained, “My attitude was: It was put-up or shut-up time,” with regard to why he permitted prosecutors to investigate fraud claims and initiated his own unofficial probe of the matter, adding, “If there was evidence of fraud, I had no motive to suppress it. But my suspicion all the way along was that there was nothing there.”

Barr is also reported to have told Karl that accusations related to the possible rigging of voting machines in jurisdictions across the country to alter outcomes were simply untrue. “It’s a counting machine, and they save everything that was counted. So you just reconcile the two. There had been no discrepancy reported anywhere, and I’m still not aware of any discrepancy,” he declared.

Not surprisingly Trump’s response to the revelations in Karl’s book was swift and sharp, with the former president asserting in a statement on Sunday, “Bill Barr was a disappointment in every sense of the word.”

Trump, in a blistering response, accused Barr of having abdicated his responsibility with regard to fully probing possible election fraud, saying, “Instead of doing his job, he did the opposite and told people within the Justice Department not to investigate the election. Just like he did with the Mueller report and the cover up of Crooked Hillary and RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA, they don’t want to investigate the real facts.”

According to snippets from Karl’s book, Barr also discussed concerns expressed by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) that Trump’s insistence that fraud indeed occurred would be detrimental to the Republican Party in key Senate runoffs conducted in Georgia in January.

That topic was addressed in Trump’s statement as well, with the former president stating, “Now it was revealed that Barr was being pushed to tell lies about the election by Mitch McConnell, another beauty” and adding, “What really damaged the Senate Republicans was allowing their races to be rigged and stolen.”

Making it clear that he has no use for – in his words – “spineless [Republicans in name only] like Bill Barr and Mitch McConnell,” Trump’s latest statement leaves little doubt that he has no intention of abandoning his election fraud claims, critics and skeptics of all stripes be damned.
