SALT LAKE CITY, Utah � U.S. Attorney for the District of Utah John Huber announced he will resign from his position, effective Feb. 28.
The announcement, made Wednesday, came after Justice Department officials said they would ask U.S. attorneys who were appointed by former President Donald Trump to resign from their posts.
�It has been an extraordinary honor to represent the United States of America in the District of Utah over the past six years,� Huber said in his letter. �From the time President Obama appointed me, through President Trump�s administration and up to my final day of service, I have aspired to be a statesman who prioritizes patriotism over partisanship.�
U.S. attorneys serve at the pleasure of the president and are generally nominated with a recommendation from a home-state senator. The 93 U.S. attorneys are responsible for overseeing offices of federal prosecutors and charged with prosecuting federal crimes in their jurisdictions.
