Nice fairly well balanced article. There is no chance of China decoupling from Russia. The Chinese won't make the same mistake that Japan made prior to Pearl Harbour. China has spent two decades stocking piling for a US blockade or war. China will take all the oil and gas Russia (& Iran) can supply. This supply can be broken, but only in an end game senario.

The Chinese already see Covid as a hot soft power attack on their economy so they know what is in the pipe.

In 1978, US naval officer gave evidence at a US commission. He was asked how long would US aircraft carriers lastin a REAL war? He said "48 hours'. The situation has moved on. Today, the game is, where can I hide my carriers. Militarily, the US is in a very bad place. An analogy would be an aging boxer well past their prime, but believes they have one more great fight they can win.

The problem with the US deep state is that it has a culture of invincibility... no one in the deep state system is brave (or stupid) enough to stand up and say 'Wait a moment, lets reconsider because of xyz.'
