I happened to run into a census taker the other day at my apt. Luckily she didn't have to come to my door.

I was told, (not by the census taker), that I only had to give her a count of how many persons lived in my apt. and the gender. That is the federal law!

I gave her my first name with a last name initial as well as another living with me. I then told her that's all I was required to report. She had an official document, (flier) she shoved at me and I gave it back. I was tart but polite. and then walked away.

There's money involved in the census: "The stakes are high for each person not counted in the census. The estimated impact of not reporting is $2,000 per year, per person, for 10 years, $20,000 of federal funding is lost for each unde rcounted person."
