Several years ago, grocery stores (at least in my area) stopped putting customer purchases in paper bags because they were not eco-friendly. They encouraged customers to bring in their own bags and even sold cloth bags with their store branding. Now, if what James Perloff is reporting is part of a new trend, they are starting to refuse cloth bags and want customers to go back to bringing in paper bags!!!

Who can make sense out of this?

Went to grocery today. In new policy, they refused cloth shopping bags I brought from home due to pandemic scare. Ironically, we bought these cloth bags because town recently banned plastic bags. Now store can only use paper bags, previously frowned upon because they hurt trees.
