Hi everyone I had hoped an planned that long before now I would begin being a more or less regular contributor again and also be givving everyone some good news updates. Such is not the case. After three months of torture at Walmart, I have been between jobs for almost a month (but I start a new job tomorrow!) and once again I am desperate for help to nake it through the next few weeks until paychecks start arriving. I lasted as long as I could physically and then financially, but now I am beyond tapped out. With a bit of help (hopefully for the last time) I will be able to survive
PLEASE send what you can to this PayPal address so I can keep things turned on and keep from being evicted:

The job at Walmart, which was hoped to be temporary until there was an expected opening at the local on-person post office, was sheer torture and not at all as advertised. Stocking was supposed to be a minor part of the job, but thanks to the local Walmart going from open 24 hours to open from 6 to midnight, a night stocking shift was elimanted and stocking became job one. Besides all the asuatting and bending, many of the items which had to be taken down from tall bins in the backroom were very heavy. Items such as 70" TVs, four gallon boxes of bubble soap, cases of motot oil and transmission fluid, mountain bikes, battery powered ATVs for children, and more.
Walmart is supposed to have a "team lift" policy for regular employees for anything over 20 pounds. Hah! They didn't even have that in practice for disabled employees. And though they give lip service to not descriminating for age or disablilty and are supposed to provide reasonable accomodations for the disalbed, the truth is far different. Profit is far an away number one and a store manager, unlike the rest of his underpaid and overworked employees, can make $200,000 or so based on profits so they try tp squeeze every last penny of work out of everyone, disabled or not. And if an older/disabled person cannot keep up with younger and more fit workers, your days are numbered.
Almost every day was agony for me. Screaming agony. Every break and lunch hour, I went to my car and used a shiatsu massager I hooked up in my passenger seat. With that, paiin medications and a muscle relaxer that often left me off balance, and pain creams and gel, I managed to somehow make it through the day. But the toll was such that just about every spare minute at home was spent recuperating so that I could drag myself in the next day for another round of agony.
Ultimatelly I was unable to keep up with the work I needed and wanted to do on the internet, including making poste here, keeping my website updated, and re-growing my online income. In fact, slaving away at Walmart has been a huge setback for me, though it dis pay the bills and allow me to slowly catch up on payments. That is how I was able to hang on until now. But it was no way to live and I began to despair of ever being able to fulfill my plans.
Continuing on, I injjured both my neck and back, had X-rays and went to see my pain management doctor (whom I have great respect for). He told me that working at Walmart was going to keep aggravating my neck and back and could lead to big trouble down the road. He said that it was rediculous to expect someone who was 67 and partly disabled to pull their weight the same as 20 and 30 year olds. And he told me to change jobs, the sooner the better.
I was pretty much told that i had a job in the internet sales department at a car dealer after the first of August, but they reneged. Alas, I had mentioned to a few people at Walmart that I would likely be leaving in August and when the managers got word, they gave me the boot. At first I was joyous and hugely relieved. But when the car dealership crapped out on me, I was suddenly desperate. I quickly began looking elsewhere and got a job with Braum's, but the hiring process and getted started took forever. I finally start work tomorrow. Training and short hours for the first week
Hopefully the job at Braum's will work out. I will stick it out one way or another, but I will also keep looking in the meanwhile and may check back with the car dealership after the weather cools off a bit.Gotta somehow be able to buy two or three white button up collared Oxford shirts and then after my first paycheck some black no-slip soled shoes. On top of keeping things turned on and keeping my landlord appeased One thing is for sure, I absolutley must get back to putting in time on the internet and the computer. THAT is where my future ultimately lies.
By the way, I have been going to physical therapy and working out for an hour and a half twice weekly. It has helped quite a bit and I am measurably stronger. However, my co-pay is $25 per visit and I will owe them $100
I hope you will all begin seeing more of me again and a fresher website as well. Thanks so very much for your help and thanks for listening.
Your humbled, embarassed and hopeful friend,
DQ
