Wall Street booked deep losses and the worst trading session in 2019 on Monday, as fears of currency wars reignited after China let the yuan break the key 7 level for the first time in a decade in response to further US tariffs on Chinese goods and services announced last week. Early morning, President Trump accused its counterpart of currency manipulation, adding to escalating tensions. The sell-off was broad-based, with tech companies and Asia-exposed shares underperforming. The Dow Jones plummeted 767 points or 2.9%. The S&P 500 plunged 87 points or 3.0%. The Nasdaq sank 278 points or 3.5%. Historically, the Dow Jones Industrial Average reached an all time high of 27398.68 in July of 2019 and a record low of 28.48 in August of 1896.
