Today is June 8th...

Two days ago we remembered an important day in history June 6th, 1944 known as D Day that marked the turning point of War World II. Today is June 8th but unfortunately no one seems to remember what took place on this date in 1967.

The USS Liberty was an American vessel sailing in international waters on June 8th, 1967 when it was violently attacked by Israeli forces that were trying very hard to sink her. The combined air and sea attack killed 34 crew members (naval officers, seamen, two marines, and one civilian), wounded 171 crew members, and severely damaged the ship. The USS Liberty flying a US flag was clearly identifiable as being a United States vessel and some of the Israeli Air Force pilots were flying so low during some of their attacks that some of the ship's crew members reported being able to see the pilot's faces... And so this attack was clearly not a case of mistaken identity. And then worse yet, although there was US support nearby that could have, and wanted to, respond to assist and come to the aid of the USS Liberty, they received a stand down order and this order came from the highest places in the US government leading right up to the White House. Although the crippled USS Liberty some how managed to make it to port and with enough survivors to tell the story of what had happened, they were all ordered to remain silent about the event.

And so today, June 8th, is just another day of little or no significance in history as history has again been re-written and we are not allowed to remember what happened on this day in 1967. We are instead only allowed to hear that Israel is our greatest ally and that Israel deserves our support to the tune of billions of US Dollars in foreign aid each year... even though to my knowledge there exist no signed treaty between the US and Israel and there never has been one... there has only been a secret memorandum of understanding that was signed in 1965 and that somehow created this "Special Alliance" between our two nations and that as a result of this special alliance almost makes it a crime for anyone to speak ill of Israel.

However, the truth can not remain buried forever and will somehow eventually come to the surface.
