Out of the 6 radish seeds that I planted outdoors in a pot, only 2 have germinated. None of my carrot seeds, cucumbers, or squash seeds have germinated, either.

If the Oroville Dam breaks and floods much of the northern half of California's Central Valley, you can imagine what that is going to do to fresh produce prices and availability.

Report from the grocery store: My wife went to the store today to buy some chicken wings. They had none, so she went to another store. They had none, so she went to another store. They had none, so she went to another store. They had none, so she came home. Well, you might say, "You must live in the hinterland and the roads to the stores were impassible." Nope – suburban Northern San Diego County. 3+ million people in the County and there were no chicken wings at four "major" grocery stores. Most likely, this is one of the downstream effects of the weather bombs that targeted the Midwest a while ago.

What little asparagus we are seeing is from Peru. Artichokes are still rare, and the ones we do see are the size of an average orange. Here, in formerly bountiful Southern California, we are seeing green bell peppers from the Netherlands in our stores.

The bullsh*t artists are really out of control and not stopping! They are after every area that grows food and making sure that they can't. We came home today from our little camp on the cove in mid coast Maine because the forecast for tonight was SNOW. Yes, SNOW. We were there for the last 5 days and if we got 2-3 hours of actual sunshine before the masses of jet sprayed clouds covered the entire sky we're lucky. Even here at home in NH it's no better.

Cold, windy, dark, gloomy, rain every other day, no actual sunshine, total whited out skies. And yes, our forecast the same tonight – SNOW. WTF??? This is beyond ridiculous and so depressing. The farmers this week are just starting to plow the fields and a few have some things in the ground. So why not snow to ruin that. More chemicals for them to plow into the soil. How can anything grow anyway without actual sunlight?

Looking over my regional weather forecast from the National Weather Service, I see a nine day forecast for rain. I do not ever recall having a nine day rain forecast this late in the season. Generally the weather schedulers cut off the spigot in late April if not sooner. Here it is May 13.

Of course the prediction is just that and not assured. As is often the situation here in my Northern California region, what the Raytheon model is really saying is a potential nine days of a gray grunge canopy, with a chance of several rain drops and/or a mold-producing mist. It could be there will be no gray but a white gauze blocking 40% of sunlight. I have observed this many time, too, in spite of the rain icon. In years past up here on this mountain, if the forecast was a10% chance, it almost always rained. Fast forward to now and the 100% forecast guarantees nothing except that the meteorologists look like fools.
