Telemundo launches initiative to increase Latino participation in elections, Census

Telemundo launched a campaign on Thursday to drive up Hispanic engagement in elections and participation in the U.S. Census.
The campaign, Házte Contar or Make Yourself Count, comes as Latino voters are expected to play a larger role in the upcoming 2020 election.
It will feature pop-up educational and voter registration locations in a country-wide tour; community partnerships with Latino organizations; segments on the network's news shows; public service announcements; a specialized website and candidate forums, according to the network.
"The future of America is overwhelmingly Latino and Telemundo is committed to lead this effort and underscore the role of Hispanics in the future of our nation," Cesar Conde, chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises and NBCUniversal International Group, said in a statement.
Leading those forums will be the first Democratic presidential debate, which Telemundo is scheduled to co-host on June 26 and 27, along with MSNBC and NBC News.
The Latino electorate has traditionally lagged behind other demographics in voter participation, partially due to lack of education about political participation.
