The health insurance debacle has now reached the top of the soiled pile of animal refuse. The murder of the CEO of the United Health Care company was carried out by a killer in a hoodie. Why? Why was that man singled out? Possibly because the shooter had been scammed by the insurance company. Or a loved one had. I know I have said this before, but as a writer, I know that any murderer has a reason, that at least to him, makes sense. No one but a psychopath kills someone without reason. And even they have a reason somewhere in their psyche that makes sense to them, if not to us. As tragic as this death was, the insurance companies are somewhat to blame. Besides hiking premiums, and adding more conditions they won’t cover, for many years, those companies have hired doctors to look for reasons to deny claims. I remember reading about one doctor who finally had to walk away from HUMANA because her conscience just wouldn’t allow her to deny claims that, by rights, the company should have paid. She also received a bonus for denying claims. Medicare and Medicaid are just as bad. The people who work for those agencies act like the money is coming out of their own pockets.
First of all, how did the government get involved with citizen’s health care? That used to be the job of the doctor. Perhaps people who are truly unable to work should be covered by the government, verified by a doctor, but the number we have on Medicaid today? Two hundred years ago, a person’s health was usually handled by the person paying a local doctor. I’m old enough to remember those days. The doctor would have checked the person’s tongue, eyes, breath and even fingernails. He would ask questions about any symptoms the person might have noticed. They would question them about their diet. In this way, he would be able to target a problem by the process of elimination. When did the ailment start? Have they traveled to another country or a different part of this country. From that collection of information, he could usually diagnose the problem.
The patient either paid the doctor in cash or in some other product like eggs or a stewing chicken or various fruits or vegetables. Or perhaps the patient would promise to do a certain amount of gardening or animal care. Whatever was mutuality agreed upon and was valuable to both. The doctors of yesteryear generally relied on a plethora of herbals and tonics, advice on exercise or nutrition in order to stay healthy. And, they were always studying, looking for further ‘cures’, not just how to manage the illness/disease. I think we will see a return to that kind of doctoring eventually, as medical care in small towns and rural areas dries up. In the long run, that is not a bad thing, especially if people can stop looking to their doctors to ‘heal’ them.
Decades ago, if a person was elderly or handicapped in some way, a member of the family would take the person in and care for them until they were either healthy enough to take over their own care or had passed away. You didn’t see the hoards of nursing homes, assisted living places or other care centers like we have today. For most of that time health insurance was not needed. So, how did we get from there to where we are today? As I was thinking about it, I realized that I had witnessed the entire transfer from independent doctors who were paid directly by the patient to the cluster f**k we have today. In the early sixties, in our part of the country, doctors still made house calls. The doctor would check mom over, maybe prescribe a mild sedative, take me around the corner and whisper, “I can’t find anything wrong with her.” I said, “That’s because you aren’t a psychologist and can’t examine her between the ears. You know she is a hypochondriac. It’s okay. She just wanted the attention. Here’s your ten. Thanks for coming.”
Occasionally, if the doctor was really concerned, he might order a lab test or an X-Ray. But even that wasn’t that expensive. Then I went to work at a local factory and took part in our UAW negotiated health insurance. First Blue Cross/Blue Shield, then Aetna, then back to Blue Cross?Blue Shield. As I recall, I paid $15.00 a week, the company paid the other two thirds. When I was permanently laid off, I could keep up the insurance by paying what is known as COBRA. In other words, my part of the premium and the companies. Since I had jumped into health, nutrition, herbals and supplements in 1971, I was unbelievably healthy. I didn’t need insurance. But, I had carried the family plan that covered my daughter, my husband at the time, his five children from previous marriages, our son and my occasional check up. By the time of my permanent layoff, I was single again and the factory owner was paying for my college. Still no insurance. The court ordered his father to carry our son on his insurance. But, that’s another story.
When I checked out the cost of COBRA, I nearly fell over laughing. If I had that kind of money, I could tour Europe for years. So, I purchased a life insurance policy and a catastrophic health plan in case I came down with something that kept me from working for a long time. I did that for ten years. In fact the UAW asked me to fly to D.C. to talk to Senator Ted Kennedy about what it was like to live without health insurance for so long. I was all set to go and then the anthrax threat scared everyone into canceling anything not life threatening with Congress.
So, sometime during that ten years I had to sign up as a new patient with my regular GP. I said, “WTH? I’ve been coming to you since you were in diapers. What the hell is the problem?” She rolled her eyes and said, new hospital rules. The doctors at the hospital had very little say over procedure. That was driven by the insurance companies and Medicare.
How did I go ten years without health insurance? Because I believe that my health is my responsibility, not the doctor’s and certainly not the insurance company’s. After the ten years, I signed up for Medicare A & B, and added a company called Sterling Investors. The F plan, the platinum of policies. All I ever pay is my premium. No wonder they decided to do away with the F plan. But, those already on it are grandfathered in. All I have to worry about is, can I afford the premiums? Did you know there are no restrictions on the cost of insurance? No one to tell them they are charging too much. My premium went from $174 a quarter to today, $760.44 a quarter. I hope I can continue to afford it. They hope I will croak before long, I’m sure. Insurance companies can also cancel your policy any time they want to. If you want to fight that, contact your state insurance commissioner. And, good luck.
Back to my responsibility. I quit smoking 50 years ago. I drink 1-2 drinks when I do drink. Two has always been my limit. My husband and I eat what would be considered a low-carb Mediterranean diet. We get as much exercise as we can. Usually on the inside track at the hospital. He is no longer pre-diabetic and our labs are those of forty year olds, not seventy year olds.
Now we are hearing that the way Medicare will charge for a supplemental plan in 2025, where there was previously no deductible, will now be $2,870.00. Since social security may also cut payments by 25%, that should be interesting. The way our health care has changed over the years was a recipe for disaster. And it wasn’t an accident either. Taking the medical decisions out of the doctor’s hands and giving it to the hospital facilities or the insurance agencies was just brilliant and not an accident. You are caught between a rock and a hard place, by scaring you if you don’t have health insurance because of the ridiculous cost of ‘sick care’ these days. I can’t bring myself to call it health care. At the same time, you are facing an ever increasing amount of poisons to food, water, air, and soil, just to make sure that you get sick. Nice!
I won’t get into the role that Abraham Fletchner and J.D. Rockefeller played in this increase in sickness and death or the guarantee that your medical options would be limited to allopathic and ever increasing costs for that limited help, including the so-called health insurance available. That has been covered before and I am pleased to see a gradual return to the medical care of yesteryear. Even our area now has doctors more intent on curing with natural means, herbalists, acupuncturists, and people like myself as a Master Hypnotist and Reiki Master. People whose intent is to heal the suffering of their patients instead of how much money they can make to pay for their mansions, yachts, and vacations. Those kind of doctors really shot themselves in the foot when the mandating of health care workers at hospitals and care centers to take the COVID vaccine, had them complying to take the jab because they were living way beyond their means to pay for those things. The ones I talked to didn’t want to take the shot, but felt they had no choice as one told me, he would not only lose his fancy house, two very expensive cars, but also the wife he was trying to hang onto who required those things from him. Very sad. He is one of the good docs, but feels he had no choice. I reminded him that quite a number of health care people took saline injections, labeling them as COVID-19 vaxxes. I know several nurses who took turns injecting each other that way.
That is just one way we are witnessing the end of allopathic medicine and the insane health insurance that is part of that ‘cancer’. Ask yourself why the same drug company charges pharmacies in other countries a fraction of what they charge in the U.S. The same thinking for the food industry. We are lab rats eating a host of very unhealthy ingredients that other countries have banned. So, these same companies have to make a healthier version to sell to them. Why not sell the healthier version to everybody? Because our government allows it. The food lobbies are the most well-funded and powerful lobbies in D.C. When it is so costly to run for office, your conscience can take a vacation from ethics just to stay in office. That will be one of the side-effects of Ted Cruz’s efforts to legislate term limits. Perhaps those Congress critters will pay more than a little attention to their legacy when they know their time in office is limited. So many things boil down to money.
I hope that everyone who reads about this and shares it with others, will contact their Senators and let them know that how they vote could impact their next run for office. That is called a grassroots movement. And, while you are at it, remind these people from your state that you want Robert Kennedy jr. confirmed as Trump’s HHS Secretary. It is high time that we remind these people that they serve at the pleasure of the voters back home in their state. This is how we get good people serving in the government. I think, over time, we will see some great changes in the way companies operate. If they want to sell their product, make sure it is truly safe and effective in more than lip service. Yank the money from any company who manufacturers unhealthy food and drugs. Fauci wouldn’t have been able to manufacture any gain of function version of a drug he was in charge of turning loose on the public. He wouldn’t have been able to profit from it, or lie to a president to encourage him to push his agenda. Yes, Trump bears some responsibility for claiming ownership of Warp Speed, but he is not a scientist. So, I can cut him some slack, if he will stop bragging about his part in it. But, Fauci is a scientist. No excuses there. He knew exactly what he was doing and was encouraged by other eugenicists. What I don’t understand is why the health and life insurance companies went along with this. They surely knew this was going to be costly for them. People will get the same treatment the people in L.A. and North Carolina got as they watched insurance companies disappearing.
So, in closing, we need to take responsibility for our own bodies and lives. It is up to us to choose healthy food and drink 90-95% of the time. It is up to us to do the research before voting for ANY politician. Once they are in office, it is up to us to hold their feet to the fire. It is up to us to educate ourselves on laws that the politicians try to ram through Congress without reading and fully understanding. We must be engaged in the legislative process, or our representatives will assume we don’t care what they do. Stop treating our politicians like rock stars. They are affecting our lives far more. We need to start using the power of the pocketbook more fully. If a company insists on making and selling unhealthy food, drink or drugs, boycott them. The loss of revenue will get their attention far quicker that just complaining, although that is useful too. Remember what happened with Anheiser Busch Bud Light, and with the Target pedo-tranny-pants. Any company/corporation that relies on public money is subject to the same treatment. Don’t think those episodes escaped their attention.
As for the murder of the United Health Care CEO, that was tragic, but understandable when you realize that these people are acting like drunk sailors, on leave after six months at sea. They think they are untouchable and can just rake the money and perks in. I would guess that other insurance company, drug company CEO’s and other top honchos, are hiring more people to guarantee their safety. If enough angry people go after them, I’m not sure it will help. I am reminded of a quote from Thomas Sowell: “It is hard to imagine a more stupid or dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong.”
If the murder of the United Health Care CEO is any indication, I would say that many insurance people and medical people are starting to understand that their decisions affect people’s lives. As people continue to drop ‘suddenly’ from a jab, they often never wanted; as more and more people have their health insurance canceled or are told their policy doesn’t cover their illnesses, I look for more of these higher ups sitting around counting their money to find that they aren’t untouchable after all.
And, one more brilliant Thomas, Jefferson that is: “If people let the government decide what food to eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are souls of those who live under tyranny.”
