Almost Complete History of Businesses On Hertel Ave In Buffalo NY

The world's largest undertaking of business history about one street is here. Can you beat the size of this list with any other street in your town? I bet you didn't know how dedicated EarthGrid was to create a list. Ha! I slowly pieced this list together a little bit on weekends. Get it here:

Two lists are here: by house number and date, and then by name alone.

Because the world is changing so fast and Google does not care about preserving history of businesses or websites, I made my own history of all the businesses that ever were on Hertel Avenue in Buffalo.

This all started with Hogey's Heros at 822 Hertel Avenue. I know it was there because it was the one place you could get a pizza without oregano in the sauce. But the internet has wiped this place from existence.

Do you remember the DiChristinas from House of Cakes on Buffalo? One person on Facebook does.

In some cases, I have no proof that another person took over a tavern and kept the same business name so I used parentheses.

Keep this list because in ten years, you may not recognize the world and will have no physical list to reminisce about. Don't let your own head be the sole location for what businesses you remember. Power will be out, businesses gone, buildings torn down... are you prepared for the future?

I need information on exactly what businesses used to be at the Norwalk building before the Hertel & Norwalk building fire on 2/13/2000. Does anyone remember Joe's Cuttin' Lodge? Alterations by Rita? The newspaper states they were there, but which number?

This list may include some silly rent-collection business names, like Three Forks and a Spoon LLC (I made that up).

I don't know how safe the world will be one year from now. Grab the list while it's almost complete. I'd have to visit the Grosvenor room of the local library to look at the Buffalo City Directories hidden from the web.
