Why you need to stay conscious and live life NOW

Spring is almost here in my part of the world. I love looking outside and seeing the delicate signs of its arrival. I feel more and more in touch with the movement of the seasons and how it corresponds with the sun's changing light.

For example, this morning I had the window open in our bedroom, and the soft, linen curtains were billowing gently in the breeze. My cat, Snowy, was sitting in the window bird-watching. On either side of her I could see tiny, baby-green leaves just beginning to show themselves on the bare branches outside. Then I spotted one uppity tree just bursting with fluffy white flowers, obviously impatient to announce spring's arrival. And finally I bathed in the peaceful sounds of birdsong that nature generously added to complete this lovely scene.

This is what life is all about! It's about noticing these amazing, everyday portraits of the natural world all around us. Can you imagine what we're missing when we get so distracted by screens and all of the craziness going on in the world? What a contrast!

I make it a point every day to take in these small, blissful pleasures that life freely gives us. This is what we humans are really meant to be a part of.

In fact, I encourage you to do the same. Allow yourself to remember how much your everyday life truly means to you. This can be the nature outside your door, or it could be the simple pleasures that lie inside your home. Maybe it's as simple as sipping a fresh cup of tea in your favorite mug. Or maybe it's falling into a comfy chair for five relaxing minutes to just do nothing at all. It could be laughing at your pet's silly antics. Or it could be a feeling of relief that you don't have to go anywhere today.

There are countless things all around us that we can be truly grateful for at any given moment of the day...

These are the experiences that screens rob from us. For every moment that we spend mindlessly scrolling on a screen, we are robbed of the experience of being alive. And that's what the purveyors of these screens and the powers-that-be want from us. They want to remove our desire to simply live. They want us to be addicted to mindlessly scrolling.

I've seen pictures of the dark increase in drug addiction on the streets in some major cities in the US. So many people laying around like they're half dead. Others are staggering around like hunched-over zombies who are about to collapse forever.

We can look at these images and feel sad. But how many seemingly healthy people are walking around like mindless zombies who live life hunched over their phones? Just like a drug addict may be unwittingly drawn into a surrounding hell of destitution, phone addicts probably don't realize that they, too, are being drawn towards a hell that is waiting for them in the form of AI.

This is all by design. The phone will be replaced by internet-connected glasses and VR headsets. And those will eventually be replaced by an embedded neural interface. Why? Because at some point, phones and computers will be seen as necessary but too inconvenient.

In fact, people everywhere are already going for the smart-glasses and VR headsets. Because mixed-reality is the next cool thing, don't ya know? 😎

Mixed reality refers to a fake, AI reality seamlessly blended in with your everyday physical reality. In which case, computers and phones will become a quaint relic of the past. Those devices will probably end up in virtual museums someday. Who needs a computer when all you have to do is put on a VR headset and a giant screen appears right in the room?

Humans are being absorbed.

And this is why I say it's so important to actually live your life, instead of being quietly absorbed by something that is artificial and not life at all.

We're not going to get away from the internet and our phones. It's too late for that now. But it's not too late to keep our priorities straight. It's not too late to give greater weight to real life, and put these devices in their rightful place in our lives.

For example, if you know you are supposed to be sleeping when the Earth is turned away from the sun, consider leaving the phone in another room. The phone has no place when this sacred time of rest is meant to be between you, the night sky, and the twinkling stars above.

This is how we keep our priorities straight, and stay in command of our existence. See if you can find other ways to stay in full control of your reality, so you can stay on a course of natural, human evolution.
