Urgent for March 1st 2024: You've Got To Help Maui Tonight Plz!
by Mary W Maxwell, PhD
At present there is a very bad bill in the Hawaiian senate, called SB 3381. I believe that folks have until midday March 1st, to send their objection to the relevant committee. So far, 220 people have said "Oppose" and amazingly 18 have said "Do it to me, man!" (or words to that effect). We need you to add to the 220 group by sending a very polite email to WAMcommittee@capitol.hawaii.gov
The proposal is to make a new boss for the West Coast of Maui, under the guise of its being a Redevelopment Authority. The senate bill calls it "the board." No. It will be a wholly unaccountable dictatorship. Surely someone is joking?
I sent my "testimony" last night on senate bill SB3381, when they were allowing it to be done online. That is now closed but you are invited by them to email the above committee, and I ask you to set aside 15 minutes right now to do your duty as an American.
They didn't demand to know my age, occupation or home address. They did ask for my telephone number and full name. It is super easy for you to enhance the total number of submissions opposing this bill, by writing to them. Come on, it will put you in the driver's seat.
FOR CITIZENS WHO ARE PRESSED FOR TIME TONIGHT: I suggest the following wording which you can exactly uplift and upload. Please do it. HONOLULU TIME IS 5 HOURS BEHIND NEW YORK TIME. So even if you email it by 2pm, New York time on Friday, March 1st, 2024, it will be on the senate's desk by 9am. Yay! Thank you from Mary.

Dear Hawaiian Senate: Some of the items in the proposed bill are utterly illegal and unconstitutional, perhaps a dress rehearsal for all states, using the Maui fire as an excuse to wipe out the elected government (of state, county, or town) and insert a tyrant. Thus, Senator, please help the whole nation by getting rid of the whole bill immediately.
I strenuously object to these two items:
1. "The district shall be governed by the board."
And 2. "The board may acquire, ... by grant or purchase, real, personal, or mixed property, ... and own ... sell ... lease, or otherwise dispose of [property]."
Thank you. Yours sincerely.

****** To readers from Mary. No need for you to choose just those two items. Here are others you could add if you so desire:
-- "Guidance policies shall reflect the values, aspirations and goals of residents." (How so?)
-- "The board may contract for and accept gifts or grants in any form from any public agency or from any other source." (Whatever that may mean!)
-- "The board may charge interest or other fees on assessment amounts not paid on a timely basis, and may withhold services or approval of governmental permits for land users delinquent in payments." (So if you are impoverished your land is taken from you.)
-- "The board has the power to adopt rules pursuant to chapter 91 relating to health, safety." (No doubt includes mandatory medication.)
Note: I got all the SB3381 information from Michelle Melendez who has been working for the last six months to sort out the catastrophe of the Aug 8, 2023 fire. Her website is BlossomInnerWellness.org. She is very versatile, and hosts interviews with anyone who will help Hawaii. (This includes working to prevent a threatened introduction of a new type of mosquito. Yes, seriously, the government plans to do such a thing.) Please, please, please help.
After you send the email, here is a beautiful treat for you:
