Just an FYI, the longer article covering this story talks about the people who heard her radio transmissions for a week after the plane "landed". Those who received the radio signals say that the last call made said that the aircraft was starting to take on water which would have ruined the radio and the antennas.

A bird (aircraft) in the water can't make radio calls because the saltwater shorts out the antenna's ability to transmit any signals. The explorers looking for her remains including the wreckage mention they found human remains on the island next to where the aircraft was found. They currently believe that she landed on land but eventually the water dragged the plane out to sea. An internet search will provide more detailed information on this topic.
