And this was years ago...my daughter is 24 now. I read the fine print on all documents, always do. I declined to have my babies blood stored by the state for decades...

The nurses came in very concerned and explained that my daughter could die if they didn't test her. My doctor asked why I would allow them to take blood to test for her slight jaundice...but not to test and keep her DNA on file by the state for decades.

I asked "Are you going to store the blood you take for jaundice for decades?" She said "No". I said, "Well, that is why!"

She said "Well, I am declining to be your child's doctor." And I replied, "That is fine, I don't want a doctor like you, to begin with!"

Now they probably call CPS on you! Back then they only threw a temper tantrum if they didn't get their way.

: Each American state has its own newborn screening program
: through which healthcare professionals who deliver babies
: are required to collect a blood sample in order to test for
: rare genetic or metabolic diseases. Only in two states,
: Maryland and Minnesota, are healthcare practitioners even
: required to obtain parental consent. Wyoming law
: technically requires parents’ “written consent,” but is
