The Pi Symbol
As a math student, you learned that pi is the value that is calculated by dividing the circumference of any circle by its diameter (we typically round the value to 3.14). You will also have come across the symbol, π, in math, physics, and science classes.
Why is this symbol used to represent pi? Where did it come from?
The use of pi is dated back to the Babylonians about 4,000 years ago with calculations for the area of a circle. At that time, an approximation of “3 times the square of the radius of the circle” was used, which returned a value of pi = 3. Egyptian mathematicians approximated pi with a bit more precision at 3.1605, as indicated in the Rhind Papyrus, which dates back to 1,650 B.C.

Mission.
Humanity+ advocates for the ethical use of technology and evidence-based science to expand human capabilities. We want people to be better than well. We support the development of high-impact technology to make beneficial futures attainable. We focus on science, technology, culture, and social issues that are often in the incubation stages and may not have reached fields and businesses that are supported and funded by legacy institutions. In short: We are often ahead of the curve and hope to bring seminal and important knowledge to the forefront.
Goal: Clear Up Misconceptions.
What has been missing from the transhumanist scope of the past decade is a necessary attention to the misconceptions of transhumanism. Often opinions are made that are based on errors in both academic works and mainstream articles that skim off the top of faulty information without checking for accuracy. Humanity+ has made it an important part of our organization to do our best to correct misconceptions and misrepresentations of the philosophy and worldview. For example, transhumanism does not advocate for the concept of immortality for elitists but suggests healthy longevity or unlimited lifespans for all humanity. Another example is the fact that transhumanism does support therapies such as gene therapies for eliminating gene mutations that cause horrific diseases and not to engineer a superior race as associated with eugenics. Further, transhumanism is not made up of wealthy men who want to play God, which is another very misleading fallacy. In fact, transhumanism seeks to help foster a more human humanity through improving how people think about change and rational assessments of what the future could be for all of us. The use of technology for human enhancement is beneficial, as seen by the fact that “There are roughly 6.92 billion smartphone users across the world. That’s 86.29% of the global population, as of 2023”. [cite] Once a smart phone was expensive and only a few had them, but today the smart phone is an everyday device. This is a single example of how humans have enjoyed the benefits of technology. Soon the same could be said of longevity, that the costs will become so affordable and donated for free to people around the world that everyone can have access to biomedical advances to live longer, healthier lives.
Safe and Ethical Use of Technology.
Technologies that support longevity and mitigate the disease of aging by curing disease and repairing injury have accelerated to a point in which they also can increase human performance outside the realms of what is considered to be “normal” for humans. These technologies are referred to as emerging and exponential and include artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, nanomedicine, biotechnology, stem cells, and gene therapy, for example. Other technologies that could extend and expand human capabilities outside physiology include AI, robotics, and brain-computer integration, which form the domain of bionics, memory transfer, and could be used for developing whole body prosthetics. Because these technologies, and their respective sciences and strategic models, such as blockchain, would take the human beyond the historical (normal) state of existence, society, including bioethicists and others who advocate the safe use of technology, have shown concern and uncertainties about the downside of these technologies and possible problematic and dangerous outcomes for our species.

Life Extension Advocacy: Anti-Aging and Extending Life.
Humanity+ is the combined effort of earliest transhumanist organizations and global groups. Starting with Extropy Institute in the United States, and soon thereafter Aleph in Sweden and Transcedo in Europe, later the World Transhumanist Association, now known as Humanity+, have ignited the core advocacy of the life extension advocacy. For over 30 years, Transhumanism as a worldview and movement has developed a knowledge base and educational programs to learn about the sciences and technologies that are extending life, curing disease, and slowing down and reversing the damages of aging.
The pioneering conferences and publications that brought this advocacy to the mainstream also provided the ideas and foresight about life extension while fostering the increasing media coverage of superlongevity aka extreme life extension and radical life extension. No where in the world is there a stronger, more passionate group of people about life extension and the advances in biomedical research and the future of nanomedicine than within the transhumanist culture.
Transhumanist Values.
Humanity+ sees its role as a primary advocate for positive transhumanist values. This includes healthy longevity (Extreme Life Extension) and the sciences and technologies that can create a more human humanity. Humanity+ feels that these values and the goals of the transhumanist agenda are consequential for humanity’s well-being. Humanity+ wants to inform its members and the public about the ethical uses of technology and evidence-based science to advance human existence. The nature and scope of human existence includes the growth, aspirations, circumstances and conflicts that humanity faces today and in the future.
Worldwide Leaders and Organizations that are preparing us for the Future are known for exploring opportunities not only within their fields, but on a broader scope. Their intellectual impact helps the forward movement of education and lifelong learning.
