I believe it was Jim Willie that was recommending small regional banks a few months ago. Something not going beyond to or three states. I heard him talking banking crisis last night, but the question didn't come up because he had other concerns.

I dumped one local bank I was with since I was a kid with a little passbook savings account back in the 1950's, when it was purchased by a large bank that sold it off to an even larger one, and so opened an account at a local credit union. That was about 10 years ago.

The locally owned and operated bank I have been using since the 1970's, however, and is the one that gets my SS payments, is at one location where it has always been and doesn't even have a branch. Its slogan is "We're in a league of our own." I recently came across an ad of theirs that came with a statement offering CD's at what I assume to be decent rates. That ad stated "Area residents only." Of course I won't be running down there to take my money out.
