Dr. Betty Martini was unique, a heroine in her lifetime. The world owes her a great debt, having initially single-handedly spread the truth of the drug marketed as a sweetener called aspartame (E951). Betty and her devoted husband, Don, answered the telephone 24/7 until her untimely death on the 14th February, at her home in Duluth, Georgia.

It is with a heavy heart that we write this tribute to another very special person, one of a kind, just like Charlotte Iserbyt, Joan Veon and Judith Reisman: Betty was a delight, very intelligent, kind, selfless and a fearless heroine. Betty devoted the latter part of her life to exposing the truth about the poison marketed as a sweetener, (E951) known as aspartame and in doing so her journey brought her to England. We became good friends; we traveled with her and helped co-ordinate her lectures from the south of England to Scotland. On one occasion when she flew into Gatwick airport to meet us, immigration officials stopped her, met her off the plane, they tried to prevent her entering the country and questioned her retaining her for several hours, The Doctor whom the officials called in to check that she was medically fit to be questioned, happened a diabetic. Betty ended up lecturing that doctor who then said to immigration “let her go”!
