He seems sincere, just because you have disagreements with someone you can't conclude they are controlled by some external power clique. In the conspiracy field people often jump to the sort of conclusion that if someone doesn't conform to your beliefs and perspective on everything they are "controlled opposition." That becomes a distraction from constructive dialogue and working together in areas of agreement. Unless you have solid proof of such a claim it's usually better to not make that allegation.
