Texas Governor Greg Abbott Confronts Biden Over Border Policies On The Tarmac: ‘Your Failure’

Texas border towns, border patrol, and the governor were waiting as President Joe Biden finally set foot near the southern border of the United States only two long years after taking office. Texas, as well as other border states, has been crying for federal help ever since Biden took office. While former President Trump made visits to the border and devised a wall and other initiatives to help the situation, such as Title 42, the Biden administration has not only ignored the crisis but they have repeatedly insisted that a crisis does not exist.
Governor Abbott of Texas and Governor DeSantis of Florida have made the news personally sending busloads of those flowing into the country to self-proclaimed “sanctuary states” and “sanctuary cities” who have declared that they are willing to receive them. Still, the camps on the border overwhelm the towns and states in which they exit as the federal government ignores pleas. finally, President Joe Biden has scheduled a visit to Texas supposedly to view the border situation and governor Abbott did not miss the opportunity to make his point.
Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a vocal opponent of the president’s border policies, confronted President Joe Biden as his plane landed in El Paso, Texas. The governor related to the press about the meeting.
“The President announced on Thursday that he was gonna be coming to the border and we didn’t hear from him. He said he was gonna meet with local officials. Last night, a staff person in my office received an invitation from the president’s office for me to greet the president at the tarmac, which I did do as I always do,” Abbott said after speaking with Biden, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Democratic Texas Reps. Veronica Escobar, Henry Cuellar and Vicente González.
Gov. Abbott used the sole meeting with the president in Texas since the onset of the Biden administration to communicate the dire needs. “But I wanted to use the opportunity to express to the president the damage that he’s caused in the state of Texas and the solutions that he could deploy today to eliminate that damage, to restore the immigration system to an orderly system and to eliminate illegal immigration,” he added.
Abbott was the first to greet Biden as he departed Air Force One onto the Tarmac of the El Paso airport, where he handed the president a letter with proposed solutions to the border crisis that also excoriated Biden over his handling of the border crisis. Biden’s visit will be his first to the border, a fact that Abbott mentioned as he described Biden’s visit as “too late,” Daily Caller reports.
“Your open-border policies have emboldened the cartels, who grow wealthy by trafficking deadly fentanyl and even human beings,” the letter read. “Texans are paying an especially high price for your failure, sometimes with their very lives, as local leaders from your own party will tell you if given the chance.”
Abbott told the DCNF that he chose to confront the president personally due to Biden’s handling of the border, which Abbott argued had greatly harmed his state of Texas. Abbott’s letter that he handed to the president suggests that Biden resume construction of the border wall in Texas, fully implement Title 42, the Trump-era public health order used to immediately expel certain illegal immigrants, and designate the Mexican cartels as foreign terrorists.
He pointed out the uselessness of visiting only the legal ports of entry, and not the locations where illegals flow across daily.
“Even the city you visit has been sanitized of the migrant camps which had overrun downtown El Paso because your administration wants to shield you from the chaos that Texans experience on a daily basis,” the letter read, referring to the scores of migrants that had taken over El Paso’s streets in recent months.
Abbott’s use of the president’s visit, although too little too late, puts in writing the governor’s declarations about the crisis and the attitude of Biden’s federal government. At a time when the official White House press statements by press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre have stated that there is no border crisis and that those who state that there is are dealing in “misinformation” as well as working hand in hand “with the smugglers” it seems that Abbott’s choice to use letter form and to make the contents of the letter public not only refutes the Biden White House statements but draws a line in the sand over the facts of the situation and Governor Abbott’s stance on all of it.
The Biden administration’s recent infrastructure bill did not include any funds to continue and complete the border wall that former President Trump started during his previous administration.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
