When I was a young teenager, my chore was to boil up a day or so worth of pre-made bottles of this formula. There were seven of us children, babies came with the territory..

The next days glass bottles were boiled in hot water, air dried, and then the formula was lightly boiled to ensure no germs were there.. I'd pour the 'formula' into those glass bottles and screw the lids on them tight. Then they would be stored in the refrigerator.. Sometimes, we'd add a bit of molasses to this recipe. It helped if the baby had constipation.. Also, we'd sometimes add baby vitamins. It was an easier, sweeter way to get babies to take that awful tasting stuff... :-)

They sold ready mixed formula and even pampers, back then, but Mom wanted to make her own..

: 2 tablespoons of white granulated sugar or 1 tablespoon of
: light Karo syrup (KARO IS BEST)

: Combine the above ingredients into the quart container.
: Stir until the sugar or light syrup is fully dissolved. The
: added sugar will help your child break down the proteins in
: the evaporated milk.
: After serving your child, any remaining emergency formula
: should be refrigerated.
: Any unused formula should be discarded after three days.

: 1 cup of cooked rice (can be any type of rice, but brown rice

: 4 cups of water
