How to grow sweet potatoes

I'm working on an experiment after viewing a couple of videos on how to grow sweet potatoes. It's working so far, we'll see about timing. I started them on April 4.

Cut an organic sweet potato in half. Stick 3-4 toothpicks about halfway down each half to support them on top of the jar. Put the cut side down in a jar of filtered water, so that the water does not get to the toothpicks. Keep it warm, either on the windowsill or under lights (mine are). Roots will begin to come out of the cut side and sprouts will come out of the eyes. Once the sprouts are maybe 6" long, gently remove them and put them in small jars, water halfway up the stem. Once those are rooted, I'll put them in good organic potting soil (I like Happy Frog) and grow them until the weather is hot enough for them to go into my big black plastic tubs, one per tub. They take 3-4 months to mature, so I'm starting early inside.

Both videos emphasized the need to keep the water clean with daily or frequent water changes to avoid spoilage. I thought, why not add one drop of colloidal silver to the water to avoid that hassle. It seems to be working! Also, you should use organic sweet potatoes because otherwise they sometimes spray them with chemicals to stop the eyes from sprouting. I decided to try it anyway, 'cause I can't get organic locally (here) and I seem to have gotten away with it.
