BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — The Blair County District Attorney says those who violate the Wolf administration’s mask mandate will not be criminally prosecuted by his office.

The statewide mask mandate for all Pennsylvania schools went into effect Tuesday.

Blair County District Attorney Pete Weeks released a statement Tuesday afternoon saying that his office was joining the York County District Attorney’s Office, and other Pennsylvania District Attorneys, regarding mask enforcement.

“To the extent that either local schools, the Governor’s office, or frankly any other entity is suggesting that violations of the most recent mask mandate will result in criminal prosecutions by Blair County police and prosecutors, let me make clear: that is inaccurate,” Weeks said.

He said his office received several inquiries from local law enforcement and school board members who were concerned that children and parents could be incarcerated for not following the Department of Health’s Order.

“It is worth noting that this directive governs only criminal liability and does not extend to or effect any civil or administrative action that may be authorized under this Order,” Weeks added. “This office’s authority is limited to criminal enforcement of our laws and does not extend legal advice to the civil, corporate, administrative, or institutional realm.”
