She worked very late at the hospital last night. When she got home, I asked her about these concerns.

In her opinion:

1. The number of cells that pick up the RNA and then present spike protein on the surface is only a very small fraction of the total cells in the body.

2. Cell surface proteins "turn over", that is they are reabsorbed by the cell after a while and then broken down, so the spike protein is not on the surface indefinitely.

3. Therefore, due to the small fraction of affected cells and the limited duration of the spike protein on them, there is very low probability of an autoimmune reaction, but it is enough to generate an immune response.

4. The reason that the already low levels of free spike protein in the blood basically disappear after ~10 days is because by then antibodies have formed and have bound to any free spike protein.

So I am somewhat reassured. But if they insist on people getting boosters in the future, I am worried about the outcome, even if Mrs.Fusion is not.
