I will guess there is some write off for the hospitals if they are not paid.
People with insurance, usually tell a hospital their insurance plan information, pay a copay and the hospital and insurance figure out the rest.

Governors are passing mandates or regulations of some kind to prevent people from receiving surprise bills.

Whatever is happening, the balance owing and due is under the covers while this is called a "state of emergency".

Death certificates pay out just like birth certificates.

I think I read they have 10 years to collect on death, but I don't remember where I read it, it was a single source of information; so I'll call it hearsay and not worth the words written until proven (true or false).

Wish I had more to share on the topic.

The summary is
There is an incentive even if it is for the insurance to half pay the hospital and they write it off, or 4he insurance ends up with a huge bill from all the tests, reach the yearly maximum coverage amount of $100,000 or whatever it is per person/ per household and any amount over that is written off by the insurance company, and there is some payout on the death certificate.

Jobs have life insurance policies on people.

Some companies keep the policies, they opened personally on an employee, long after the employee leaves the company. Those are paid to the employer, themselves, even as they canceled the life insurance policy of a person, when they leave their employment position at that company.

Since it's not an act of God or natural event, someone is benefitting.

Derivatives, for or against assets like home loans, car loans, student loans, stock, retirement plans may be unwinding with each recorded death.
