Why is this important?

It use to be, the necessary equipment, (rockets,boosters, etc.), were brought to Vandenberg on the Pacific Ocean on barges...now they are flown in to be assembled and launched.

Speaking of launches, according to NASA, the Lansat Data Continuity Mission, (LDCM), is now renamed Landsat 8. This orbit was launched Feb 11, 2013 and it remains collecting data imagery in Agriculture, Education, Business, Science and Government.

This program has been in the works since 1972 and has brought back data since that time.

Wouldn't you love to see this data?

Guess the barges are still in use. I can see them making their way along the ocean with the Channel Islands as a backdrop making their way to Vandenberg. It's a good tell-tale sign that something's in the works.
