Dave Rubin of The Rubin Report talks to Michael Knowles of The Daily Wire and author of “Speechless” about why we won’t be returning to normal life anytime soon, how he was wrong about conservatives having a better understanding of free speech than the left, and why conservatives and Republicans continue to push a losing strategy in the culture war.

First, Michael discusses why he was a part of the California exodus and why Dave needs to leave California ASAP. He addresses how to live in a world gone mad and why the fact that the statement “there are only two genders” has become controversial is proof that we are living through a war on reality.

Michael explains how the failure of political elites during the pandemic has led to an authority crisis where no one trusts experts or our institutions anymore. People continue to ask “when will life return to normal?”, but with some doctors suggesting we should be wearing masks forever, we may never return to normal.

Michael also discusses why he wanted to write about political correctness history because he wanted to understand the origins of wokeness and cancel culture. He admits that he went into the project assuming that conservatives and classical liberals had a better understanding of freedom of speech, but he quickly realized it was the radical left who far better understood not only free speech, but the importance of free speech limits. He shares the real history of freedom of speech and why the limitations placed on it actually strengthen it.

Michael discusses that conservatives failure has been that their limited government vision of the world can’t compete with the version that liberals put forth. Michael also shares what he thinks of Michael Malice and how anarchism is the other side of the socialism coin.

Michael explains what conservatives need to learn from leftists like Herbert Marcuse about Repressive Tolerance. He shares how even William F Buckley Jr. knew that it was dangerous to tolerate intolerance. He explains that if conservatives want to stop losing they need to have the courage to say no. If Republicans and conservatives don’t learn to say no to the growing extremes of the liberal ideology we will lose some of the most important aspects of our culture.
