The correct use is "My friend and I".

My Great Uncle used to say "Your friend is not mean, so it is your friend and I"

Hobie, it couldn't be simpler. All one needs to do is remove the other person, and if it doesn't make sense, it's the wrong one.

"He gave the book to me", or "He gave the book to I".

So, obviously, the correct one is "He gave the book to my friend and me"....

Easy answer taught to me by a College English major years ago:

Remove the name of the other person in the sentence, and then read/say the sentence.

He gave it to ME is the answer.

So ME is correct.
