In the movie Dances With Wolves, Lieutenant John J. Dunbar, a Union officer, leaves the Civil War battlefields and travels to his new post on the western frontier where he eventually makes friends with the Lakota Sioux. By having the courage to cross cultural boundaries, he is able to experience the adventure of a lifetime in which he gets to know the true spirit of the Native people.
