You're on the right track. We've already had this discussion in our family.

For purposes of clarity, type O-neg is the universal donor (that's what is stocked in the trauma centers to be given immediately while waiting for type-specific blood can be obtained). Type AB-pos is the universal recipient (they can accept any blood type in a pinch).

Finding someone who is O-neg and who would donate is the easiest option. Beyond that, determining your own blood type is also helpful. Blood type is genetic, so one's family would be a good place to start. At least some blood products are from a pool of donors, so I imagine it will become increasingly difficult to avoid as time goes on. And, the next logical concern, would be organ transplants. Probably the best bet is to avoid the situation as much as possible until we are able to see the long(er) side effects of the vaccine...
