I recently had a transfusion in the hospital and a bad reaction to it, including very bad wheezing. I was given an injection of what I think was benadryl and sent to the cardiac unit for observation.

The hematologist said my body recognized a foreign protein in the donor’s blood and reacted to it. I think it is possible the donor had the vaccine and that is what I reacted to. I did not have a reaction to the first unit I was given, but reacted to the second unit which they stopped when it was less than a quarter finished.

I didn’t think to ask about the donor being vaccinated, and the hospital staff never asked me if I was. I’m now wondering if I should contact the hospital and try to find out, although it’s probably too late to do anything about it.
