Aaron Copland: The Tender Land Suite (1949) (20 min)
Aside "Fanfare for the Common Man", Aaron Copland's most famous music is the "Appalachian Spring" suite. But, rather than post that, I prefer this one, "The Tender Land" suite, because it seems more personal and pastoral, in my opinion, perhaps because it from an opera, not a ballet.

Aaron Copland (1900-1990) is one of the most famous American composers; his music has been heard all over in political as well as in public events, and it has been since honored or parodied by several composers after him. His opera The Tender Land was actually intended to college and university performers, yet he submitted it to the NBC and to the (now defunct) New York City Opera only to become a tremendous flop. Nonetheless, the opera contains a subtle social critic against McCarthyism, from which Copland became a victim for his leftist associations two decades before this political occurrence.
Aaron Copland (1900-1990) es uno de los compositores estadounidenses más famosos; su música ha sido constantemente escuchada en eventos políticos o públicos y ésta ha sido honrada o parodiada por varios compositores posteriores. Su ópera La Tierra Fértil fue pensada para ejecutantes a nivel universitario, aunque la intentó presentar en la NBC y en la (ahora occisa) New York City Ópera sólo para verla fracasar. No obstante, la ópera contiene una sutil crítica social contra el Macartismo del cual Copland fue víctima por sus asociaciones con la izquierda política dos décadas antes de dicho fenómeno político.
