Three events are overlapping to cause disruptions to global food supplies and energy dependence. The AMOC or Atlantic Overturning Current is at the lowest strength in 1000 years, the Gulf stream is at its weakest in 100+ years and warmest in 150 years and now the Beaufort sea is dumping more fresh water into the same areas that should mix and return the warm waters to the Atlantic depths. This is an 80% decrease from what records show before.

Should the Gulf Stream current become totally disrupted it will have a drastic effect on the climate of Eastern North America and Western and Central Europe. This will be primarily manifested by cold temperatures that have never been seen in recorded history. If that happens areas that currently account for the majority of grain production in the northern hemisphere (i.e. the great plains of North America and eastern Europe) may no longer be able to support growing certain grains.
