Many of those behaviors are more often than not, related to addiction. It's unfair and imprecise to link these behaviors to someone's sex, even if the sexes tend to act out differently.

Regarding malevolent behavior that continues LONG TERM (months or years long) you're either

1) dealing with an addict

or

2) with someone who had a close relationship with one - a child of an addict or else a long term non-addict partner of an addict (known as a co-dependent).

3) You could ALSO be witnessing the results of some sort of brain injury - although that is less common than addiction. It could result from illness or trauma. So to be fair, don't jump to conclusions.

Here's a test you may want to employ when dealing with a new partner or dating prospect - please note that

1) a cluster of about 4 or more of these traits is significant,

AND

2) the traits should be noted as CHRONIC - meaning they go on for months or years

For example, I used to smoke, not that often, and ended up quitting. I was never an addict and not addicted to cigarettes, except out of habit. Smoking is a trait to screen for because many addicts have multiple addictions such as sex, gambling, smoking, poly drug use, etc. Some people, especially some men, tend to be heavy drinkers without becoming alcoholics or other types of addicts.

So use this test with some discernment. As stated before, around 3-4 or more traits that are CHRONIC should raise a red flag.
