yes and the problem will only get worse. due to ultra high insurance costs people cant afford to go to a doctor.

and the malpractice insurance premiums are the main reason doctors clinics and hospitals are quiting.

in Illinois the maximum a OB doctor can charge for delivering a baby is only half the cost of the per person malpractice insurance policy cost the delivering doctor and hospital.

in the 90s every OB Dr quit in southern IL and in most of the state.

Illinois law demands all births occur in a hospital and midwifery is outlawed.

for many years a pregnant woman giving birth had to be sent out of state to have the baby.

this is the way i remember things were when i left IL in 2006.

the hospital i was born in was torn down last month the new hospital that replaced it in 1960 was heralded as the most modern hospital in the US when it opened.

it has been greatly remodeled and expanded and had it's name changed several times by out of state management groups.

the only part turning a profit is the long term care nursing home, the entire second floor that was for normal patients has been converted to clinics for out of state doctors who come once per month to see patients.

4 former hospital management groups went bankrupt in the last 30 years.

the only way it stays open is as a satellite ran hospital under an out of state licensed management company..

at one time during the 60s until the 90sit was the largest non factory employer in the county.

the city only had a population of about 6000 people and a county population of 20,000.
