Here are a few suggestions, which you may like to try.

1) Deep breathing. Correct breathing (abdominal/diaphragm breathing) gives energy, strength and stability to the body and the mind. Do this by an open window. Make the breaths as slow and deep as possible, without straining. Sit quietly for a while, after you've finished. The more you practise, the better you become.

2) Try qigong exercises. Here's a video which demonstrates a series of very easy, relaxing exercises, suitable for the evening, as a preparation for a restful sleep:

If you have any difficulty with the URL, the title will be sufficient to find the video. Do these exercises well before or at least two hours after a meal.

3) Anaerobic exercise (sufficiently vigorous to make you start puffing) can also be very beneficial, as it encourages the release of endorphins, which produce a natural "high". This kind of exercise is obviously more appropriate for earlier in the day. I live very close to the beach, and I see people jogging along the sea-front at all times of the day, even before 6 in the morning, looking for their daily boost. A long, brisk walk, in a natural setting - park, woodland, riverside, etc. - would be a less strenuous way to gain the same benefit.

4) Homemade hot chocolate can be most soothing. Use ordinary milk or coconut milk (I prefer the latter). Heat up a mug of whichever kind of milk you prefer in a pan, together with a generous teaspoon of organic cocoa powder (Green & Black's is gorgeous). When the milk is steaming a bit (don't let it boil), pour it back into the mug, then sweeten with organic honey or maple syrup (not sugar). Drink while hot, to obtain the maximum benefit.

5) Some essential oils can assist one to slip into a restful sleep. Lavender in particular comes to mind, but there may be others. Your local healthfood store would be able to advise you on this.

6) Play lots of relaxing music. Also watch your favourite comedy shows. Life is a joke, and what's going on now is a test, to see how well you understand that. I could explain that in considerable detail, if you're interested.
