I hope that you can post this message. This message was my response to conservatives who say that the problems in this country stem from liberal teachers and liberal professors who indoctrinated our kids to be "radical socialists". I hope that you can post this at RMN, thanks!:

Looking back at modern US history, it is quite apparent what happened and why the US is in this mess today. Yet, the conservative narrative is almost the OPPOSITE of what REALLY caused the mess. That is why the conservatives that yell so loud and 1000% sure of their cause, will give the wrong prescription and make things worse (No, firing the teachers and professors will not magically remove the conflicts!).

The country was going in a good moderate slightly progressive trajectory in the 1960's and 1970's. Then some shadowy thing crept into some people's hearts. Maybe jealousy that black people are getting free things, maybe fear of mixing of the races, maybe jealousy that young people are sexually free, maybe fear of too much independence in women, maybe many other things. These are LEGITIMATE fears and jealousies, but conservatives (mostly the white folks) are not honest enough to voice these legitimate concerns. Instead, the conservatives took the DARK path.

The dark path includes de-legitimating the federal government, electing sleazy presidents (such as Reagan and Bush jr), reps, senators, governors, judges, channeling funds from making people better to making weapons, pushing talk radio to push their grievances in a brash way, and basically punish liberals for being happy and flowing with free money.

Starting with Reagan, the trajectory turned right, until today, even the so call Democrats are basically center right. Yes, the right got their society: a right wing society, but with the poor and minorities dragged unwillingly into it. So the tremendous conflict. Very simple.
