I'm not sure how they diagnosed the blood clotting from an autopsy, as once a body is dead the history of when the blood stopped flowing could be hard to ascertain.

While there are likely combinations of viruses and bacteria affecting the patients and antibiotics would halt the bacteria growth, the aspirin and tylenol medications could block fevers from suppressing virus replication, and while symptoms would temporarily subside those patients might return later with a dangerous pneumonia since halting fever and inflammation (the natural immune response) allows infections to spread deeper.
