BATTLE FOR WORLD / SPUTNIK NEWS | June 27, 2019: The article highlights that the country of France has asked the United States not to drag the NATO alliance into any possible military operation in the Persian Gulf, said diplomats familiar with the discussions, according to Reuters.
The US and Iranian officials continue to increase their verbal tirades against each other in the wake of last week's downed aircraft drone incident, with President Trump accusing Iranian leaders of being "not smart" and Iran's president calling the United States' "hostile" behaviour signs of the White House's "mental retardation."
According to the diplomats, French officials made their remarks during a closed-door meeting with US Acting Secretary of Defence Mark Esper on Thursday (June 27). And German representatives have joined the French in calling for the 2015 Iran nuclear deal to be upheld, and not 'jeopardised'.
