(hobie here.) Years ago, I mentioned to my older sister that vaccines might not be a good idea and could cause problems. I don't recall now whether I spoke of autism at the time. Some days later, my sister offered this comment: "Hobie, those little babies NEED those vaccines."

She said it in such a way that I knew she was 'channeling' someone else's words, possibly her doctor's or those of someone else she considered authoritative. This particular line of propaganda is everywhere and sounds so reasonable.

But perhaps even more to the point is the phenomenon of not wanting to find out, today, that actions one took in good faith in the past may actually have caused harm. There's no way to go back and change the past, so deflecting and rejecting, today, the disturbing facts being offered may seem the only practicable choice.
