Later in the day, the prime minister made a speech to Parliament, conceding that her deal has no hope of going through. The EU responded by suggesting that the most likely outcome will be an exit with no deal on April 12.

In her speech, the PM seems to be equating EU law and international law, and doesn't bother to mention British law. That sounds like a deliberate misrepresentation of the situation, to me.

For our third update, I found this morning a report that MPs have decided to ignore the prime minister, and take matters into their own hands, by seeking to change the rules, so that time can be granted for them to have "indicative votes" on the finer points of the Brexit deal, in the hope that the deal can then be passed, and the no-deal scenario can be avoided.

When Theresa May leaves office, she will have time to reflect upon the fact that she has developed a reputation as one of the most ineffective and duplicitous prime ministers in recent British history. Or maybe she'll just be congratulated for a job well done.
