I used to wonder whoever and whenever someone coined the name 'dog' to classify an animal as a dog, but I think I have figured it out.

Scientists will tell us that all dogs are originally descended from wolves.

Really? well maybe, so, but there are other wild canines as well...coyotes, foxes, jackals, and dingoes for example. Them too, they say... it's just evolution, you know.

If you accept the evolution bullshit many would say well, ok then.

Me, I don't, never have and never will. So I mused further.

After having been wholly owned by many different dogs in my life, something bothered me. Every civilization since whenever has had dogs living with them domestically, not by that name, of course.

I speak English, so I wanted to know about 'dog'. Well, I found out that NO ONE knows.

O.E. docga, a late, rare word used of a powerful breed of canine. It forced out O.E. hund (the general Germanic and IE word; see canine) by 16c. and subsequently was picked up in many continental languages (cf. Fr. dogue (16c.), Dan. dogge), but the origin remains one of the great mysteries of English etymology.

Everyone knows what a dog is, people know that a dog is man's best friend but no one knows the origin of the word. Strange.

If a dog has ever owned you you can suspect, though.

A dog wants to be around you always, no matter whether you are young, old or nearly dead. The dog don't see you with eyes that judge. A dog don't care if you are nude or wearing a tuxedo

A dog likes it when you give him the least bit of attention. A dog will just wait until you do have time.

A dog can sense when you are sad. He will come to you, and try to lick your tears away. He can sense when you are happy. He will joyfully play ball or dance with you.

A dog will look you straight in the eye. you always know that you are his life. A dog will try to sit or lay against you when you are typing on your computer. I dog will go with you anywhere in walking or riding.

A dog will willingly give his life to protect you and yours, an without hesitation

A dog will take your scolding and correction and never once stop loving you. oh, he may run away, while you are angry, but he will come back when you calm down, lick your hand and bring his ball.

A dog watches over you and yours while you sleep. He learns what pleases you and what you dislike, And he remembers.

And many, many more acts will he do. If a person did all those, wouldn't you call it Love?

Love is of course seen in the acts you do for another. Especially selfless acts of giving your time to just hang out.

So, I have concluded: Dogs are the model of selfless devotion to man. That's what God made them for.

Dogs have one person they care most about -- you. Yet most will also accept others, especially if they sense they are ok to you.

Yeah, others can tempt them away for a while with food or toys, but they will come right back, because they own you. They rarely put themselves as first in anything you are doing.

Dogs are your willing ears, when you cant hear. They are your eyes when you are blind, your shepherd when crossing the street.

If they are in difficulty or danger, or sense their end coming in congestive heart failure, thy will crawl to place their head on your feet, with their last breath, just to let you know they still have you own their mind.

If you don=t think that's the ultimate of true love, you are living under a rock.

So why the name? dog? Yeah, I know it's God spelled backwards, but I prefer Dispensation Of God. See, He can't spend all of His time with you, cause there are too many yous. And we all need help all the time.

So he made us a helper to serve your emotional and physical needs continually when He's busy.
