Yesterday 1/23 in a dream in the early afternoon I saw a tall Chinese soldier in a military green uniform, similar in style to the one at left in the first image above, walking through a field of tall sun-browned grass near a forest, he was dressed like an Asian officer in the 1940s, and I would have mistakenly guessed he was Japanese (because of the green color of his uniform, those are Japanese in the second photo above) exceptthe "dream voice" telepathically told me it was a Chinese officer named "General Tchu", I called to him and said Hello, that I had read a book about him or read about him in a book...at first he ignored me, kept walking through the Fields of Elysium (where warriors go when they die), then he suddenly lightened up and turned to me and smiled and said hello back and some thing else which I didn't hear. Joseph Smith asked "What are we to understand by Zion loosing herself from the bands of her neck; 2nd verse?"

In modern pastoral lingo, those are called "generational curses" where in concept suppose for example the plight of someone descended from a long line of suicidal persons, chances are a so-called "suicide"-encouraging spirit would linger about the descendant until ignored long enough or ordered to leave "in the name of Jesus".
That answer to Joseph Smith began to make more sense after I read Malachi Martin's "Hostage to the Devil" in 1984, a journalistic account of five Catholic Exorcisms, and I began to study what Charismatics of different denominations call "Deliverance Ministry", books like "Pigs in the Parlor" which are about how Christian pastors and laity actually confront demonic oppression (rarely, possession) with prayer, study, fasting and "Deliverance Ministry" where "unclean spirits" such as "the spirit of greed" or of "intellectual arrogance" or "hatred" or "murder" or "self-righteousness" or "legalism" "infidelity" or "rape" or "self-loathing" or "infantilism" and so forth are adjured in the name of Jesus Christ to identify themselves and depart the human they are oppressing.
I attended a seminar about Deliverance Ministry and witnessed an actual Deliverance Session, led by a laid-back retired pastor of Baptist persuasion. My Dad submitted to an "interrogation" by the preacher, and they speculated Dad was in the grips of a spirit of "intellectual pride", reportedly a demon which tells a person they are a "know-it-all" and to turn up their noses at new information from others, especially from the only Actual Know-It-All, God.
"Spirit of Intellectual Pride, come out of him in the name of Jesus!" Said the pastor while two parishioners gently held Dad's hands. Dad says that suddenly, for the first time in his life, a voice other than his own came up from his throat, it said, "It's not that...It goes deeper than that...it goes back three thousand years..." Startled to hear those words coming from his own mouth, Dad of course paid attention to the punch-line: "...It is the Pride of Jacob."
Everyone blinked and the session moved on to the next client. The "pride of Jacob" is mentioned in the Old Testament several times, God sarcastically "swears by it" in Amos 8:7. That experience was in early 1985, 3,000 years earlier was about 1016 B.C. when King David was 34 years old and thus four years into his kingship in Jerusalem, roughly speaking then "the Arrogance of Jacob" began with the establishment of a monarchy in Israel, and the building up of the city of Jerusalem. I had a dream in 1995 which stated that times have been tough for Israelites as a whole "since the Ark of the Covenant was [temporarily] captured by the Philistines", upon which Israelites finally demanded a human monarchy instead of the somewhat-anarchic "reign of the Judges".
