Though Egyptologists research of the Keops Pyramid, that was built more than 4500 years ago as the ending place of the 4th Dynasty of Pharaoh Keops, more than a century, they still reveal its secrets that do not cease to deepen its mystery, writes Mentalfloss.

The latest discovery, described in detail at Nature, revealed a hidden void within the pyramid. What is even more surprising is the use to visualize it by subatomic particles.

ScanPyramids, an international project launched in 2015, has used non-invasive scanning technology such as laser imaging to gain a better understanding of the building of pyramids at the time of the Old Kingdom. This is a discovery made using subatomic tomography, a technique that generates 3D images of subatomic particles, by-products of cosmic air that can go through the stone better than similar X-ray technology, such as CTs.

Subatomic tomography is currently being used to scan containers for smuggled goods and nuclear reactor cores.

The newly discovered void in pyramid is at least 30 meters long and carries a structural similarity to the section immediately below it: the gallery of the Grand Gallery in the pyramid, the long, inner structure of the seven-meter cross area in pyramid, which looks like a "big cathedral at the center of the monument," said Associate and co-founder of ScanPyramids Mehdi Tayoubi.

Its size and shape have been confirmed by three different technical tomography techniques. Egolithologists are not sure what is its purpose or why there it is, and even if there is one or more structures like taht there are. It could be a horizontal structure or it could have a slope. Egyptologists will continue their research to clarify another mystery of the Great Pyramid.

In recent years, technology has enabled researchers to access parts of the Great Pyramid as never before. Several robots sent to tunnels from the 1990s brought images of previously unseen areas. Almost immediately after the start of the Great Pyramid Heat Examination in 2015, researchers discovered that some of the limestone structures were warmer than other parts, indicating internal air currents moving through the hidden chambers. Subatomic shooting in 2016 indicated that at least one previously unknown void was near the northern side of the Keops Pyramid, although the researchers could not determine where this was and how it looks.

The display shows the inner chamber within the Great Pyramid and the approximate structure of the newly discovered gaps.

"These results represent a breakthrough to understanding the Keops' pyramid and its internal structure," writes ScanPyramids in The Nature, "Although there is currently no information on the role of this gap, these results show how modern physics particles can illuminate the world's and Timorological heritage."
