Thanks for all that you do at RMN. I hope your health has improved greatly.

I just cannot sit by and watch all the seeming hypocrisy in Charlottesville, where I lived during the 1980's. The reason I left? Racism, blatant, yet swept-under-the-rug, racism, everywhere. I could not live in a "lily-white" society that was completely in denial about it's own bias. Every time I made an observation about any social, educational, musical and/or recreational situation being all white, all the time, I was shouted down.

Granted, many in Charlottesville may have grown up in the past 30 years, but it seems to me that we are, as a country, instead watching fools regressing into their "safe spaces", ugh. And C'ville seems to model that at the moment. Also granted, much protest is manufactured these days, and I wouldn't be surprised if the murderous driver turns out to be a Soros' plant. Certainly the reporting I have seen and read on the situation in C'ville seems quite "planted" and biased in the other direction!

The very revered father of the University of Virginia, Thomas Jefferson, had slaves, and yes he had a mistress from their ranks, Sarah "Sally" Hemings, of "mixed race". Can we get over that, too and learn from the history? Are they going to destroy UVa and/or pull down Jefferson's likenesses as well? It is ridiculous that the Confederate statues are now imperiled. The Un-Civil War was not about slavery! Any true Southerner will tell you that it was the "War of Northern (Banking) Aggression".

I grew up in a small college town where everyone got along very well, all races. It was a melting pot and I didn't understand why we were marching with Dr. King, except that maybe there were some really mean people over there in Selma. When he was assassinated, I began to understand that racism really existed. And I couldn't live with it in Charlottesville, I had to leave that angry burg. I had to live outside of the town in order have any peace, and every time I would drive over Pantops Mountain to go to work in town I could feel the underlying rage in the place.

If you haven't figured it out, I'm white with speckles and am from the same state as the vicious driver. I used to be a liberal, but now realize that both sides of the proverbial aisle are totally corrupted. The only race riot I ever saw here was due to a white barber refusing to cut a black man's hair in the 60's. As I recall, since I was a kid at the time, the protest came mostly from white people.

I am praying for the injured ones in Charlottesville. It all just seems so senseless and unnecessary.
