I have long held that this nation was founded in violence, and particularly rebellion. It is our national soul to bring violence against anything that pisses us off. The best selling books, movies, TV shows, theater productions all carry the theme of violence solves everything. Nobody ever looks at the wreckage left behind the "hero" as he walks off into the sunset. The shattered lives, broken minds, scarred souls that live with the remains of that violent answer. We are too busy chanting USA USA USA, spiking the football, and taunting the losers. It's far easier to destroy than it is to build. "Until the power of love overcomes the love of power......" Bob Marley. America embraces violence for the very reason it will always have violence. Fear. Fear drives us to deny others equality, respect, and security, because we fear losing them ourselves. Might makes right after all. Until we as a people choose to believe and act in the manner that every soul stands before God individually responsible for their treatment of their fellow man, then nothing will change. During WWII both sides called upon God to deliver their enemy into their hands. We are still doing it. What this nation needs to be doing is calling upon God to correct the wrong in each of us. That done, violence reveals itself as no answer at all.
